Your Question
I was diagnosed with a bulging/herniated disc approximately 3 years ago. I have been given Hydrocodone 7.5/500 each time it has become to painful to cope with and for the last four months now it has hurt everyday, thus I have been taking the Hydrocodone everyday as well as muscle relaxants such as Skelaxin and Robaxin.

I have taken so much of the Hydrocodone that either it is not working like it once did to alleviate the pain, the pain is just more severe, or I have built up a tolerance to the drug\'s effectiveness.

I made my first trip to a pain management clinic last week. I made it very clear to them that I do not want to undergo any type of intrusive procedure; especially the epidural injections because of the possibilities of something going wrong from that procedure and becoming paralyzed or worse.

I asked the Doctor if there wasn\'t anything stronger that he could prescribe for the pain which would negate the necessity of taking so many doses a day. He told me there wasn\'t anything stronger. The fact of the matter is that my wife works in the pharmaceutical industry, (that coupled with the fact that I have encountered so many people who have this same problem) so I know the doctor was lying to me. I simply sat there with my mouth shut for fear of alienating myself from the doctor by letting him know that I knew he was lying. I think that he may think I simply want drugs...I do not! If that was the case I would never have went there because my Family Practitioner is very liberal and will write prescriptions allowing for me to take up to 1or 2 of the 7.5 Hydrocodones every 6 hours.

My dilemma is how I can approach the Doctor upon my next visit with the information about the stronger pain medications he can prescribe for this problem which would alleviate the pain and allow me to take a smaller pill with less frequent doses, thus being healthier for my body\'s toxin diffusing organs.
