Your Question
I\'m a 26 yrs old female. A year ago I have been diagnosed with atrial septal aneurysm (ASA). (It was an accidental finding during my sports physical exam, I never had any health issues that would make doctors suspect I might have ASA)
Anyways, I had TEE and they found no evidence of a right-to-left shunt. Doctor told me that basically my condition isn\'t something to worry about, but given that I\'m a competitive freediver, he was reluctant to give me a \"green light\" and only did so after prescribing me Apirin Protect 100 mg.
It\'s been a year now and I feel as good as ever, and I\'m wondering is Aspirin really necessary. I\'m not a scuba diver so the risk of decompression sickness is negligible (plus I spend most of my time training in the swimming pool), and besides they gave me i.v. contrast 4 times and failed to find the shunt after I performed Valsalva maneuver.

Other than that and a chronic (allergic) sinusitis I\'m in perfectly good health.

So my question is: Is medication absolutely necessary in my case?
