Your Question
Acute pain in the shoulder. It is omni-present and persistent. The pain is the result of a fall from a motorcycle - lucky I was wearing a helmet - because I was unable to do much to lessen the blow, which ultimately concentrated on the shoulder. Pain has been persistent for about 4-5 months since the accident. Pain is on a scale of 2-3 of 10 without motion, 6-8 of 10 when motion exacerbates it; when making a extended rotation of my arm the pain seems to occur from the '9-o'clock' to '3-o'clock' positions of the rotation. Pain does not radiate and there are no associated symptoms. I cannot really think of anything that makes it better, although localized massage is nice, it does not have any long-term effect.
I live in Thailand, beautiful country, and though I respect their medical system in most regards, being outside Bangkok can make diagnosis or corrective action a bit dodgy. For this same reason I did not seek medical treatment after the fall. This is because I guess I thought myself to be clever; (notice 'thought'), because I could not isolate pain on either the humerus or clavicle, I figured the damage was to the soft tissue or a very small hairline type fracture. In either case, my grand wisdom of medicine told me that there was no way to set such a minor fracture - even if it did exist - or heal the soft tissue without simply giving it time. Might be wrong of course.
I have become kind of convinced that the long term pain I am experiencing is because of damage to tendons, ligaments or bursae of the shoulder joint. This, in my mind anyway, is evidenced by the fact that best localization I can get on the discomfort is always in the soft tissue between the humerus and clavicle, although actually pinpointing the spot seems impossible...
So, am I off my rocker? A complete dumb***? Or is there any validity to what I am saying and the fateful course I took as a result of that thinking? Finally, whether right or wrong, what actions or steps should I take to correct the problem and what would be the prognosis as to when this might heal?
Many thanks in advance, I appreciate your help! My spoken Thai is pretty good - but not good enough technically to explain it to a doctor in the detail above (at least where I am outside of Bangkok).
