Your Question
I am a 56 year old female with a five year history of chronic high blood pressure. I am on several medications for it, 320 mg Diovaqn; 10 mg Lisinopril; 10 mg Norvasc; 50 mg Zoloft(anxiety due to HBP). Even after being on this medical therapy for 2 years, my BP still runs high. It averages 170/95 to 190/115. For the last 2 weeks it has stayed in the higher range of numbers. I know this becauase I underwent surgery to remove a kidney stone, followed 10 days later by surgery to retrieve the stent which had traveled upward and lodged in my kidney.

As my father died of organ failure (his kidneys were the first to shut down), I am concerned that this long running history of HBP will affect my kidneys in such a way. Hypertension is a herditary trait in both my father\'s and mother\'s family.

Am I right to be concerned and should I bring this up with my urologist?
